Hi, I was wondering if apple offer Appleworks, whicyh runs on a PC? I am sure i have heared something about this. My reason for asking is because I am sure i read somewhere that they offer it to education. Also, we have difficulties converting Word files to Appleworks.
Thanks
james

AppleWorks for Windows does, in fact, exist. However, it seems to be available only to educational customers anymore, just as you had predicted.
Unfortunately, this will not help your ability to convert Word files to AppleWorks. What exactly is the problem you're having with them? Do these files contain any particularly unusual formatting?

You can find it on ebay and a few places here and there, however it is not really something you want to run as your main suite. I believe it was last updated around Windows NT 4.0 (I'm probably wrong). I remember it ran somewhat slow.

My thought was that if we didnt have microsoft office at all, and all used apppleworks on both pc and mac, it would avoid any software related problems.
Would this be a solution?
Is there a reason why they only offer thid product to educational customers?

If you are really only interested in changing formats on a file, then the product you really want is MacLinkPlus. I recently found a slightly older version for about $10, and it does everything I want it to do.

That would work for new documents, but you would still need to convert your old ones, and that would be a problem.

I don't know. They used to offer it to the general public. My guess is that they want to stop selling it, but have contract obligations with some schools, and so they have to keep selling it for a few years yet.

AppleWorks 6 for Windows works great. It's as old as AppleWorks 6 for Mac, but it runs really fast and is perfectly compatible with AppleWorks 6 for Mac.
