Hi, when I am trying to use (qt)Lyx on OS X 10.3 I get this error msg:

LaTeX Error: File `lmodern.sty' not found.
^^M

*** (cannot \read from terminal in nonstop modes)

How do I fix this problem?

Another problem is that I have to start up the program from it's own directory (/sw/bin/lyx). Where can I set this patch to start it from any place?

How can a boring thing such as a mac or a PC be so exciting??

I guess you installed LyX via Fink. I have found it much easier to use the "native" Mac OS X aquafied version available here:

ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.3.4/...macos-aqua.dmg

You will need the teTex package(s) installed if you haven't already. Just do 'fink install tetex-base'. You may also need some other packages.

Well, i have installed all required packages trough i-intall, then installed tex for aqua. I still get the same error msg. (Yes, i have installed the lmodern package. Missing my Debian machine!!) I have even a copy of the Libary/texmf from use/ to user/Libary after innstalled the tex packages! (where LM was selected in the pro install options!!!)

Argh!

I don't know what "i-intall" is.

My "lmodern.sty" file is in:

/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/tex/latex/lm/lmodern.sty

Do you have the same file?
Did you ever run the command 'sudo texhash' ?

I think it is supposed to be run by the installer... you should see something like:
Code:
[itransform:~] physicsa% sudo texhash Password: texhash: Updating /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/ls-R... texhash: Updating /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.gwtex/ls-R... texhash: Updating /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/ls-R... texhash: Updating /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/ls-R... texhash: Updating /var/tmp/texfonts/ls-R... texhash: Done.
Then perhaps LyX will run. Oh!! and before I forget when you first run LyX you should always run Edit --> Reconfigure then quit and restart LyX. You only need to do this when you upgrade LyX or a dependency.

I didn't have the problems you are having... but then this was a while ago so I may have forgotten what I had to go through. If memory serves it "just worked" for me.

Heh I know what you mean about missing Linux. I maintain a couple of labs full of Macs and some Linux PCs. My primary desktop at home and at work is Linux (FC1 and 2). Even after working with Macs for 5+ years I still find them "limiting".

I tried this, but his Lyx disbehaves. I use the aqua lyx, is there any path-files I
should look into to "force" lyx to function as a normal Linux program does?

Mac OS X starts to anoy me, the same installation in Debian takes 1 minute.

Thanks for your answers! I realise there are few people using this programs on mac..

OK this is what I get:
Code:
iwhiz:~ utidjian$ echo $PATH /sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current:/home/utidjian/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
The relevant part being '/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current'.

Do you have that? If not, set it and see what happens.
