Does the FUS Cube Animation Stutter for You Too?

On my DP 2.0/9800XT, my Fast User Switching Cube animation stutters on the first user switch I perform in awhile. After I switch over and see it stutter, I can switch back and view it smoothly. This issue seems to have improved since I have put the extra 512MBs back into my G5 (for 1GBs total). But I did it just a little while ago and saw a little bit of stutter. The user I am switching from is not putting real strain on the processors when I switch, either. I have surmised that the animation code is being placed in VM after awhile of usage in one user, and that it is paging out to get the code back. That would explain why it is smooth after I switch again, yet the issue reoccurs after regular usage. It would also account for the improvement seen after I put the RAM back in. My question is, am I the only one seeing this?

No, it happens to everyone. It's just a matter of the code for the animation being paged out to the hard drive after a certain amount of time.
You're more likely to see the stutter if:
1) You don't have much system RAM.
2) You use the computer for a significant period of time before switching accounts.
3) You use memory intensive programs before switching accounts.
When the animation gets paged out to the disc, it takes quite a bit of time to page it back in. In that case, switching users with the cube animation takes significantly longer than without.
FWIW, this is why I once asked for a way to disable the cube animation for FUS, but everyone thought I was crazy.

Thank you for responding, bmedina; your confirmation is appreciated. I remember seeing your thread about ways to turn the feature off. Did you specify the stutter phenomenon as the reason for why you wanted to disable it? Hopefully Tiger will do something to prevent the slow down, wiring the animation into memory if need be.

Yeah, the annoying thing is that the old iMac G3 with 256MB RAM often switches faster than my Dual 867 with a gig of RAM. No doubt it's a cool animation, but its novelty wears off fast because the implementation is poor.
I, too, hope for a solution in Tiger.
