Have 2 drives in G4 want to erase, and started a 7 way option. It's only 60GB drive, looks like it's going to take week, and I can't cancel cause it says that could damage drive.
What story on that?
This is much slower than zeroing out data?
Learning the hard way.

Well, yeah, it's gonna take longer: it's overwriting all 60GB seven times.

Yeah it's nuts, and the problem is you can't cancel out!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway: next time I'll zero out, is that that much less safe?
Still, I shudder to think about my 250 GB Lacie.............

when my new G5 arrived and I was cleaning up the ol' G4 I had thought about doing this option too as I was not sure where the G4 would end up. what I did instead was basically run my home dir and data (2nd hard drive) through the built-in secure delete and then zero the drive - I figured that would be good enough to accomodate my level of paranoia, and it did not take as long....

Yes, that sounds like way to go.
Do secure delete and the zero out.
The 7 way, still have 4 days to do.
