Why is it that Apple won't build a feature into OS X that allows you to append to an existing session and use your CD-RWs as a big floppy disk? I really missed this feature when I switched from XP. I sent this request to Apple when Jaguar was still in development but still no sign of the feature. I don't understand why Apple doesn't see the value of being able to burn, remove the CD, and burn more at a later date. For example, I have a CD of pictures that I add more pics to as time goes on. In XP, I just put the CD in and add the additional pics. With X, I have re-burn the entire CD. I hope I can get this feature added to Tiger.

Thoughts?

Yeah - I wish it did that too.
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

You can use Disk Utility to burn additional sessions.

Well, that isn't quite the same feature that I'm asking for. I want to be able to append to an existing session. What you are saying would add an additional session to the CD. That means the when I insert the CD multiple CD icons would pop on my desktop because the OS considers it to be separate CDs. What I'm asking for would put all of my stuff into one session.

Also, if anyone else wants to bring this to Apple's attention please submit your feedback to the Mac OS X Feedback Form here.

And another thing, wouldn't it be easier if OS X was able to erase CDs from the Finder instead/in addition to Disk Utility?

We still have some time before Tiger is released so we might be able to do something about this.

Thanks, I read about CD Session Burner on VersionTracker but it adds sessions to the CD. I want to be able to append to existing sessions.

I don't think that's technically possible.

It's possible, Windows XP does it.

You are describing the Mount Rainier packet writing system. Linux supports it and Windows XP begain supporting it (at the OS level) since service pack 1.

I agree the OS X is woefully behind in this front.
One iMac, iBook, one iPod, way too many PCs.
