I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution to this...

iChat ( version 2.1 (v153) ) will not start if I'm connected to the internet. The icon just bounces and then the program dies (no triangle underneath in the dock) producing no error message. If I run it from the termincal, I get a one line message reading "broken pipe" and the program won't launch.

The weird thing is that if I disable my internet connection, iChat will start fine, and then I can reconnect to the net and sign on. This is a rather annoying workaround though.

I tried removing all preference files. The same thing happens even on a fresh user account. I updated prebindings as well. Does anyone have any clues about this?

Yes. I bet you have a Dlink DI-604 router, haven't you?
Restart it. It should fix the issue. (I opened a bug to Apple about this but they closed it as unreproductible )
