Are Classic folders hidden if 9 is not on the HD?

Somehow thru all the X updates (updated to 18Sep04) I seem to have lost OS9. I was pretty sure I had an earlier version of PSHP with some files (I'd like to have back..) on this machine, but I cannot find anything. Clicking on Classic only tells me that I'm missing 9 so it refuses to open...but I was sure it was there a year ago, or so?! The prospect of starting all the way back at 9.0 and working my way back up to 9.2.+ is daunting..

I've tried the disks that I got with my Imac, so the install disks know it's not a kosher install on this old G3. I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

OS 9 does not get "lost" unless you delete it. Look at your hard drive. Is there a "System Folder" in the top directory? If there is, you still have OS 9.

And no, folders relating to Classic are not "hidden" in any situation. They're either there or they're not.
