I want to see which ports are blocked out by the router in our building. They provide broadband access as part of my rent and all we have to do is plug into the wall ethernet jacks.
I got NMap-FE and I am unsure of how to use it. Who runs the program? Me from inside my building or have a friend run it from outside? Starting from when it asks for hosts what IP address gets put in there?

Basically I was hoping someone would walk me through the process and let me know what kind of Scan type, ping type, and what setting to set the program to so I can find out what they are locking out.
If anyone can lend a hand I would really appreciate it.
Smile. It will make people wonder what you're thinking.

Try this: Shields UP!
It will probe the firewall of your current public IP address.

With Nmap you have to scan from the outside of your network, thats what ShieldsUP! does to.
