As a PC switcher, I'm sometimes disappointed in the lack of keyboard shortcuts, having to move a hand off the keyboard for certain tasks. One of the things that was always frustrating was being unable to retrieve something minimized to the dock without having to click it -- and in my case it's a PB trackpad.
I have started using Hide (CMD-H much of the time) to banish a window(s) I don't need/want at the moment--true, I don't get a little miniature window in the dock.
But, when I use CMD-TAB to switch applications, selecting the hidden app, un-hides it's window(s). This has been helpful at bringing back a window(s) I didn't need/want to see for a while.
Not good for everyone, nor all the time.
Mike
(you can focus on the dock with CTRL-F3, but on the PB it's FN-CTRL-F3, arrow, arrow, arrow, ugh)

As of 10.3.3, I believe, there's an option in the Keyboard prefpane to switch what the fn key does.

Or do what I've done and change it to Control-D. Control-A activates the Apple menu, and so I can use the keyboard to switch between things much more. Plus, Control-D remembers the last applicatoin you activated using it, so if you have your Dock icons grouped smartly, you do not need to much upping and downing. Is not so helpful for already open applicatoins (I too use Command-Tab) but is very useful for switching to applications that are not yet open.
