Newbie alert!
I just bought my first Mac ever. It's a new G5 iMac (17-inch:1.8GHz).
I have a question regarding the installation of OS X.
The iMac comes bundled with Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and 2, as well as the Additional Software & Apple Hardware Test Disc.
What should I or shouldn't I be installing?
Should I run the default install with all the bundled software or should I customize the install?
When I ran the default install the first time I had noticed that AppleWorks was not included in the install. Do I have to customize my install to get AppleWorks or any other applications that I may use?

Welcome to the Mac. When you get your Mac everything is pre-installed except for the Classic Mac OS, which is found on the Hardware Test CD. Unless you have some reason for wanting to reinstall the OS, there is no reason to do so on your new iMac.

I can't say for sure about the iMac G5, but a long time ago when I purchased an iMac, AppleWorks came on a separate CD to everything. I thought that had changed by now, and it was installed by default...
Are iTunes, iPhoto, GarageBand and all the other 'extra' apps installed already?

What? Classic most definitely does not come on the Hardware Test CD, at least not for any Mac I've ever seen. It's on one of the System Restore CDs, probably the first.

Everything seems to be here (iTunes, GarageBand, etc.). But, AppleWorks is nowhere to be found.
