what app would create a file called "0" (Zero), and place it at the root level of my hard drive? and why? this file was 0kb in size, and apparently consisted of nothing. i've changed my password, just in case, but unless i had a few aberrant keystrokes yesterday, i can't figure how it got there...any ideas?

If you're running OSXvnc then upgrade to the latest version. The previous version had a bug that created a "0" file at the FS root. Annoying, but harmless.
