I have some start-up items that start up and just waste CPU time
EG: A better finder hotkey.

I know i can remove them from the system preference.. (accounts)
also in the library/startupitems.. (something).

but how can i remove a betterfinder hotkey .. it takes 1% of my cpu!!
and i search for it in finder and can't find anything like it.

please advise.

1% of your CPU isn't a lot.

Now if it ate 60%, that would be another matter.

Make sure you search the entire hard drive, and search for parts of the name, abbreviations, etc. Might also want to search for "Publicspace" or variations thereof, since they make the software.

Alternative: re-download the offending software and see if the Installer comes with an "uninstall" option. Many do.

Have you looked through /Library/Contextual Menu Items/ and ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items/ (where "~" is your home directory)?

For stuff like that the installer usually has an uninstall option. Also check the documentation of the program and the web site of the author.

They're usually stored in /Library/StartupItems. See what you have in there.

You could post what you figured out so others can learn.

Actually, if it's using 1% of the CPU all the time, that's a sign that something is wrong.

so now no more wasted CPU.
I just downloaded the install application again.
and instead of going install changed it to uninstall.

I can also remove startup items from system preferences --> acounts --> startup items

and there is also a folder in /Library/StartupItems .. which contains additional start-up items.

i particularly had difficultly removing a better finder series. (the little application that runs in the background).

here this is it:
Run the installer and select "Uninstall", that will do everything that's required.

You can get rid of the hotkey app by deleting it from the "Home:Library:Application Support" folder. ABFR will still be accessible via the context menu and there will be no CPU or memory overhead.
