Every time I log in my Mac connects to our server, no problem. If I'm not at work (where the server is) it still tries to connect and the finder locks up for a few minutes until it gives up trying. This is a pain.

The server is not in my startup items or login items, I have never asked it to connect on startup, I have no idea how to stop this happening, what else could be asking it to connect? Any help would be great.

Powerbook 12"
OS 10.3.5
The only things in my startup folder or login items are virex and iCalAlarmScheduler
Did a search for this with no success.

Thanks, Mark.

Hi, Mark.

1. By chance, have you placed an alias to the server volume in your Finder Sidebar?

2. Your network administrator may have configured your Mac to automatically connect to a NetInfo or LDAP server. Normally this inhibits the startup process, but its another possibility. Consult your network admin at work. Related AppleCare Knowledge Base documents include:

- “Mac OS X: How to Disable NetInfo and LDAP Connections at Startup.”

- “Mac OS X 10.2: May Not Start Up If LDAP Server Designated in Directory Access Is Not Available.”
Good Luck!

Yes, two actually. Removed them and its solved. Bit annoying that, I will put them somewhere else. Thanks a lot, mystery problem solved.

I am the network admin! Well more accurately I am the only person in our small company who knows much about Macs so I am network admin by default. "Mark, my computer won't print" again and again...

Hi, Mark.

Thanks for posting back and letting me know we've nailed it. Glad to help!

LOL. I know the drill. It's even more interesting when you work in an IT department and you're still the go-to guy for the other people in the department!
Good Luck!
