Hi,
I recently got a Dual 2.5 Ghz G5. I used the setup assistant to Clone my old powerbook (g4) to it. I would have reinstalled everything to get a clean computer, but unfortunatel my CD drive doesn't open on the G5 and it needs to be sent back.

Anyway, I tried installing the Photoshop G5 patch, but it won't run because it thinks I'm running a G4. I'm assuming this is because I essentially cloned the system from the powerbook. I remember reading somewhere that there's just a preference file that tells things like installers what kind of computer it is for this sort of checking.

Does anyone know hwo I can turn my g5 back into a g5?

Thanks!
gabe

Wow. I used the Setup Assistant to grab stuff from my G3 and my G4. Guess my new iMac was so confused it just decided to remain a G5!

This happened to me on a new G5 after installing the photoshop CS I went to the upgrade folder and it tells me that I need a G5 to install the upgrade.

I haven't found a solution (haven't looked for one). Let us know if you find a fix for it.

I wonder if runing the Apple System Profiler would provide any clues?

There is a new Photoshop Updater available to install on the new G5's. It was just released in September I think.
1.6ghz G5 Power Mac/1.5GB RAM/Superdrive
