The new version of iChat that is going to be bundled with Tiger is supposedly going to have a tab feature. Ive been waiting for this for a while now. I use to use Adium back in the bad and tabbed chatting was just heaven. Cant wait this for this. It will make life much easier. They are also implementing some iTunes features as well. Tiger is going to blow us all away.

Unless you heavily use the audio and video aspects of iChat, I would just use Adium. The latest nightly builds are incredible.

But, I guess it's still good to know that Apple is actively updating their instant messaging app.

Nah I just like iChat so much more that I can deal without tab browsing for now.

Fair enough.

I just find it entertaining that every feature listed in that article is already in Adium, including the iTunes integration. Adium also has the ability to post links directly from your Safari Bookmarks, which I have found very useful.

Adium is great, but iChat does have a nicer more fluid interface. Of course the brushed metal sucks, but even so it is still nicer. If it wasn't so dumbed down it might be viable.

Not sure I'll like "Safari Style" tabs in iChat...

But again, this thread is in the wrong forum.

Oops. my fault folks.

Tabs might not be useful for everyone but for someone like me that always has at least 5 chat windows open, its great.

This is great for someone like me, who usually has video chat going along with 4-5 other IM windows. Sweet.

Tabs are the one reason I always hated iChat, IE it didn't have them. If they do this then I will be incredibly happy! Now all they need to do is add both Tabs for convos, and a side bar or drawer for your contact list

Funny you mention this. I started a thread on here about 1 and a half ago asking if tabs would ever be implemented into iChat. I guess my dream has come true. Anyways, in the thread there is some good convo on tabs and how it would work in iChat with the buddy list. I mocked up a pic of my idea but the image is no longer there but you can see someone elses mockup that was pretty much like mine. Check it out its a good read.
