hello all,

I've backed up my system (OS 10.3.4) into a DVD (bootable) and now I'm testing it in a DVD+RW before I record the final -R

here's what's working:
1. the DVD boots correctly (I used the technique of imaging the install CD, and growing it to the size of a DVD)

what's not working:
1. when booted from the DVD, when I try to restore the system image previously done (following the instructions in the asr entry – not forgetting the scan for restore), disk utility returns the error 22 and won't proceed...

other info:
1. I booted from my HD, and tryed restoring the image to a partition in an external FW drive, but if I select the image located in the DVD, it returns errors and won't work...

2. If I copy that image to a HD and use it for the restore, it works...

Is there a way to make it work from the DVD (preferably booted from it)?
(otherwise, I'll just have the DVD as a backup and will be forced to have an extra drive/partition, and worst, copy the image to disk first!)

TIA!

Although you may need multiple partitions or multiple DVD drives (like FW), wouldn't Carbon Copy Cloner's "Prepare for Apple Software Restore" make the images you need? Then you would "restore" the images using the Apple Software Restore Program (Which I haven't used since OS9, but maybe it exists for OSX).

I know I could use CCC, but I've used the asr method described in the terminal's asr entry.
This method works perfectly, as long as the images are in the HD...
(but there must be a way to make them work on the DVD, because there are restore CDs supplied by apple, and the images reside in those CDs...)

The real problem is that the images in the DVD are giving an error...

So, the real question is:

why don't the images in the DVD work in the restore?

it seems that I'm in a now way road

after searching in the apple support site, I found this:

doc: 106451

Make sure you have at least 2 GB of free hard disk space on your computer.

Make a new folder.

Insert the Software Restore discs one by one and copy the disk image (.dmg) files in the Configurations folder from each disc to the folder you created on the hard disk. There may be up to five images depending on the restore set.

Open the Disk Copy application (Mac OS X 10.2.8 or earlier) or Disk Utility (Mac OS X 10.3 or later).

Drag the first .dmg file from the folder you created to the Disk Copy window. The disk image appears as a hard disk on the desktop. This disk image volume contains all the software that your computer did when it was first purchased.

Open the disk image volume and locate the software you want to reinstall.

Copy the software from the disk image volume to the hard disk.
