I'm running OS X 10.3.5 on an MDD 1.42 duallie and, for some reason, I'm having trouble with the "Find" feature. As in, I have over a dozen instances of a particular filename "XYZ" in my User folder (on the Desktop and in my Documents folder), and yet when I run a search for this filename, only three instances come up. I am able to replicate this problem with all kinds of different files... as in I can see the file that I'm searching for and the Find results don't include it.

I have never run into this problem. I repaired permissions but that did not solve it at all. Has anyone every run into this? Any ideas about ways of fixing this bizarre buggy behavior?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

which "find" feature are you having trouble with .. typing directly into the search field on a finder window or actually searching thru the find dialog window ? If its the latter, make sure you haven't put any undue restrictions on your search.

Hi, Krusty. Thanks for the reply. My parameters were the broadest possible. The good news is, I fixed the problem, though I'd hardly say I solved it.

In a fit of anxiety, I rebooted my Mac for the first time in a long time (not including software updates), and now Find is churning out all the info one would expect.

First time for everything, I guess.

When I restarted I noticed that it took a good long while to reboot. I bet my drive is very fragmented. This probably isn't the place to ask, but if you or anyone else is inclined to answer, what defragmentation software works the best with Panther?

The reason your problem was fixed and why your reboot took so long is most likely because your drive was being repaired.
