Is there any way to boot into classic without first selecting so in the system preferences pane, such as with a keyboard command at startup?

It used to be that you could hold down the 'option' key at startup, which would take you to a screen where you could select either the OS9 or OSX system to start up from... though I'm not sure if this still works (since my machine doesn't boot into OS9).

Might be worth a shot.
First there was man, then there was Macintosh

It still works, but it has never worked if you haven't installed OS 9 on a separate partition.
