Hi guys,

I have recently purchased a Phillips monitor and was told by my local Mac store that I can use it with an upgrade that I need to download but was not specific which. The monitor requires a resolution and Hz that is not available on my dual G4 and I cant seem to locate the correct upgrade. I have searched this forum but did not find an answer. I kindly request your help.

Thank You

Have you tried plugging it in and seeing if it works?

What kind of monitor is it and what is the required hz and resolution? Many monitors will still work outside their normal settings. As the 2nd poster asked, have you tried it to see if it works?

If the scan rates are outside of what the computer can provide it is not a software issue, it is a hardware issue, and one that I have never heard of. There is no download, and anyone who told you there was one is blowing smoke.

The only software I ever heard about was for MacOS 9, for a specific OS (7.6 I think) that allowed better control over multiple monitors, specifically it allowed easier configuration for older (in that time) LCD projectors. None of this would apply to a G4 and a monitor.

Maybe they're referring to a firmware update for your graphics card. Here's an NVidia one for GeForce cards. There are ones for ATI cards on their site.

Seriously... connect it and see if it works. You cannot damage it with an out-of-sync signal, and I'm pretty darned sure it will work.
