This had been driving me nuts, but maybe I should not worry about it.
I have a brand new Sony Artisan. There are common greybar tests on web and elsewhere where , if your monitor is “properly calibrated” , you can see all the bars in the whites and blacks.

The problem is many times, I see all the bars, and many times I don’t. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

Variables: how long the monitor is on short while or for long time.
If the room is light or the room is pitch black.
I get both scenarios in both situations.

Sony hasn’t a clue. The monitor seems fine, the sensor is working and it says “calibrated”

One important note:
Actually it may not be about the Artisan, (not sure--os?) because, my second monitor, an NEC, corresponds to whatever the artisan is doing. They either both show all the bars, or they both fail, always together in tandem.
