I have begun to notice small problems with my Jaguar system.

1. the restart chime no longer works.

2. the Applescript App can't seem to 'make Application'

3. the search function 'command f ' hardly ever seems to be able to find anything much, yes I have both drives checked when I am trying to find.

4. My System Preferences Panes in the 'Other' category seem to be making duplicate copies of some preferences from the other Pane categories.

On having read troubleshooting guides with help viewer and at Mac Discussions the likely causes could be that I either have some things in the incorrect places or I may have some third party Apps that are causing a conflict.

I have run Disk utility several times and Norton utilities from my cd, both utilities report no major problems found and all minor problems fixed.

I realise there is an 'Archive Restore' at Apple, but on a 56k modem a wholly unlikely way to go.

Years ago when using system 9 there were very adequate apps that one could run to find conflicts and help restore the system. A very good app was Conflict Catcher, among others.

Are there any apps out there that could assist me.

Unfortunately I don't have my original Jaguar Install cd's, along with my back up copies and heaps of other stuff since I lost some boxes of stuff when I recently moved residence.

1) Don't use Norton's.
2) Really, don't use it. It used to be good, but these days causes more problems than it solves.
3) Possibly time to upgrade to Panther?
4) Best disk utility out there is DiskWarrior.
