In many applications, there's an Open Recent submenu under the File menu. Is there any way of changing the number of files displayed?

Same goes for Recent Folders under the Go menu in the Finder. I know that the Recent Documents and Recent Applications menus can be configured in the System Preferences, but I can't find anything about these others.

Hmmm, people who ask these questions usually have something compromising in their recent history that they want to hide... or is it just me?

You can hack the resource files of most applications using resedit. I normally delete the entire menu item and replace with a line. I've done it with Quicktime, preview, windows media player and some others.

Basically, any friend of mine browsing items in Preview probably doesn't need to see that I've viewed something like "bigtits.jpg" or "How to build an atomic bomb in 12 easy steps.pdf" because I had forgotten to clear the menu before. In other programs, it might be useful if I could display more than 10 recent items at a time.

I'll try the resedit hack, thanks.
