No. It's preloaded, and installer disks come with every Mac.

well if you bought a used powerbook, depending on how old it is, you may have (1) OS X version 10.3 (panther, current), (2) An older version of OS X, or even (3) Some version of OS 9 or earlier.

If you only have 2 or 3, you would have to buy OS X 10.3 Panther if you wanted to use it.

Ignore all that though if you bought it new...

I felt so b'se from I can only refresh the machine from the DVDs supplied. what if I have to update certain applications?

Where can I find a list of bundled applicaiton with OS X 10.3 Panther?

What do you mean "refresh?" The Software Restore CDs that come with every Mac have more software on them than the Panther retail CDs, so you're not missing out on anything.

The bundled application list changes based on the machine you purchased. (you get, e.g. OmniGraffle 2, and OmniOutliner 2 licenses with pro machines, for example, and other things like Quicken or a game or two if you buy a consumer machine).

You can find out exactly what's coming with your machine by looking on Apple's site, (click on hardware, you machine, spec sheet, and look at the bottom for bundled software).

To make that absolutely clear. The software that is shipped on your Powerbook is also present on the DVD's that come with the computer. If for whatever reason you had to reinstall the whole system, you can choose to install all those applications again as well. That is, you are not at risk of losing the bundled apps if you decide to re-install or replace the hard drive.
