I just got new dual 1.8 G5. Have 2 monitor setup.

The squares of grey bar charts usually show up well.

Here ‘s the thing though:
I just discovered that when I reboot the computer, the squares on the grey bar, go from being able to read well, to not being able to read well -- ie, the light/dark squares blend together.

After about 2 ½ hours it finally reverts to reading well again.

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

what kind of monitors?

ACSA 10.4/10.3, ACTC 10.3, ACHDS 10.3

That sounds like a non-trinitron, non-diamatron CRT monitor. The two I mentioned are pretty good about not shifting colors as they warm up, but the old aperture grill monitors have a very definite shift as they warm up... and one hour is about the time they usually take.

I DON'T think this is a monitor issue you know why. Because the problems happens, it runs in tandem with both monitors. When the grey bar reads well, it reads well on both, and vice versa.

Main monitor is new Sony Aritsan, 2nd is new NEC Superbright.
