When I insert a cd card into my FW card reader, a box comes up that says, “import from camera”

Now I go into image capture and selected “none -- do nothing”

I’ve also looked at my Epson scanner software and can’t see anything there preference wise.

I’m out of ideas and so are Apple techs and Epson techs etc.

I’m still trying, after 2 years, to see if anyone, might know how NOT to get this dialogue box after inserting the CF card. Thanks!

What model is the reader? My Sandisk and Acomdata usb readers just mount the card as a volume.

Two years?
What OS? What kind of card reader?
There's obviously some background process running...

Do you mean that the OS asks you what to do when you attach a camera - every time you attach a camera?

If so you could try trashing this file:

~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCapture2.000a95a095ec.plist

The bit 000a95a095ec will probably be different on your machine.
You know it makes sense. ☼ ☼ ☼ Growl.

It's a fairly new Lexar FW reader. I'm on Mac 10.3.5 , new Dual G5

The dialogue box says at top of it (which is greyed out) "import from camera".

There is a drop down menu with two items listed. one showing says, Epson scanner, the other says Canon 1ds.

Image capture is set to NONE.
Can't find anywher in scanner software to change anything regarding this.

Told you this would not be easy.

If I knew how, I would provide a screen shot. here.

Its still not clear from your description what is happening - you should be able to tell what application gets launched when you insert your CF card/reader (look just to the right of the blue Apple in the upper left corner of the screen). This wont be easy because we're still missing key information. On top of that, I don't know why your Epson scanner would have anything to do with this, so likely you can quit looking there or blaming Epson.

However, try this:

launch Image Capture (from the Applications folder) and go to Image Capture -> Preferences.

Then, make sure the "Camera" tab is selected, and change the drop down "When camera is connected, open:" is set to "No application."

Next, click the Scanner tab and deselect (uncheck) the "Open scanner window when Image Capture is launched."

Hit OK, then quit Image Capture.

Now, insert a CF card and try again. Did that help?

Cadaver:
thanks,
yes that has already been done. You would think that would be it. But I insert a cf card and dialogue box comes up and at top it says, IMPORT FROM CAMERA. --and this "import from camera" is greyed out if that means anything.

There is no app listed next to blue apple.

We'll need two things:
1) screen shot of the whole screen when this pops up.
2) a complete list of 'top' from the terminal when this dialog is on-screen.

Ok, I got it going. Check out the link here:

http://users.adelphia.net/~ktw56/

The first box is the import from camera that comes up when I insert a cf card -- which I then have to dismiss.

the second screenshot is terminal, top after that occurrence.
thanks!

try taking the image capture application and moving it to the trash, but do not empty the trash. you could do a restart at this point, but may not be necessary. now plug the card in and see what happens, do you get the same window?

Ok did it Milhouse, and it solved problem. Whew, finally isolated that.
Now:
what should I do about image capture?
Do I need it for anything I'm not aware of? I don't think I ever use it.
You can't put it on a hardrive correct, for safekeeping, because then it will launch, right?
I would have to keep it on a cdr. right?

move the impage capture app back into the applications directory, and update to 10.3.6 if you haven't done so already. once that's all done and that dialogue still persists, move the application to somewhere other than the boot drive (cd, disk image, etc.). what happens then?

Milhouse:
How come when I do software update (thorugh Apple), nothing for Imagecapture comes up, even though it's an Apple software?

If you put another app on another HD, is it not still live and functioning?
