Hey Mac people,
I need some help. In my office we had an Airport Extreme that was our printserver to our HP D135. Then we changed to a new setup that allowed people to use the faxserver, which wasn't available w/AE.
Now with the new Dell as the printserver, I can't print. I need help. I have the Gimp print and all the files installed and I just can't get it going. I have used the advanced setting on the Printer Setup Utility, but to no avail.
I need to be able to print, and I would like to be able to fax wirelessly too, but as I can even print, I'll take one step at a time.
Can anyone offer suggestions?
TIA
NOTE: We have a Minolta/QMS

You need to provide FAR more info -- what devices are you using, in what configuration, etc.

Hi. You're right.
I am using OSX on an iBook (10.3.5). The Dell is running XP.
The wireless network is a 802.11 with 4 port hub. The Dell is the print server for our HP D135. The Dell is networked and connects to the HP D135 via USB.
I can see the volume when using Samba under Printer Utility. It asks me for user/pass. There is no user or password on the XP box. Trying every combination or none at all doesn't help me out.
I really need help. I spent the day emailing my documents to coworkers.
If someone could help. I'd appreciate it. If I could also fax, that would be such a bonus.
Thanks!

Have you tried just adding the printer via IP Printing and using the Dell's IP?

You may need to specify the Windows Workgroup via the Directory Access application. Launch Directory Access, authenticate, and the you will be able to address Windows Workgroup authentication issues within the SMB Service. Access Apple help from within Directory Access and search for Configuring SMB Service Directory for a much better explanation than I can give.

That sounds good, I'll try it now.
As for the IP, the Dell has no IP, says our techie. He says to use the network neighborhood "...//workgroup/hp".
I also need to figure out faxing as well. Maybe there is no way to do it, as HP says "it is not a supported function for OS X" F-ing HP, they make lousy driver and worse excuses.
Thanks for the help!

Ok.
I tried some more things and still no go.
I found the drivers from zenographics and I tried some other bits I read here and there. Now I think I am close. The print driver pops up and spools successfully. Then finishes as one would expect. The issue is that nothing prints. HOWEVER, just as I came to this point, I learned that no one could print as the printspooler died. So possibly this may work, but I won't know until tomorrow when they fix that.
In the meantime, anyone have other clues for me if this doesn't work?
