For some reason I can no longer create PDFs of whatever I'm trying to print out. I have /Library/PDF Services created. It works fine on a non-admin account, so it's a problem with my account.

I tried repairing permissions, etc. to no avail. Where could this problem be?


EDIT: Also works under root. So something is wrong with my home account.

EDIT 2: I eliminated the problem by copying all of my Apple preferences from a saved archive. However, I was able to reproduce the problem after indexing my home directory. Odd thing is that was the last thing I remember doing before this problem occurred. I cannot tell, however, what preference or whatever has been modified to stop this from happening.

Well since no one bothered to reply to this I found the exact preference file responsible:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist

Replacing it brought back the Preview and Save as PDF buttons.


Before this, even without /Library/PDF Services or ~/Library/PDF Services the Preview and Save as PDF buttons would still be grayed out.


I don't know how the custom printing presets could become corrupted to the point where you could no longer save/preview to PDF. I opened the bad .plist file in Property List Editor and couldn't find anything suspicious.
