Does someone know the fundamental difference between the ditto command from the CLI and Finder copies? ditto seems very slow.

I use sudo ditto -rsrcFork for copying users' home folders to and from a backup drive or from an old machine to a newer one, etc. Are there alternatives? In my experience, Finder copies too often get interrupted by files being busy or locked, etc. ditto seems very reliable.

I have to say that is not my experience with Ditto, but I also don't give a damn about resource forks.

You might want to try the resource fork enabled version of rsync.
