the data rescue saga continues
my drive is being seen in target disk mode now, and i'd like to simply make a bit-for-bit copy of it so i can format it and at least get my powerbook online again, and worry about rescuing my data afterwards.

is it possible, in OS 9 (it still won't see the drive in X), to make an exact bit for bit copy from one hard drive to another? i dont care about the data on the hard drive i'll be copying to.

EDIT: whoops, accidentally posted this under the X forum

Disk utility *can* do block level copies. Make an image from a disk, and check "format target" and it will be a block level (bit for bit) copy. Though it's more appropriate to "make image from folder" as it will properly resize the image if you, say, copy from an 80 GB to a 180 GB HD. If you do the form with a block level copy (bit for bit) you'll lose the 100 GB.

You would not lose 100GB in this process. Also, I've had better luck using asr at the command line than using Disk Utility. The drive does not need to be able to mount for you to do this.
