Macs are not on my good side this weekend.

I've been trying to install Panther back on to my powerbook all afternoon. I had to format the drive after receiving a keys out of order error that even Diskwarrior would not fix.

SMART status is fine. The drive is readable. However, Panther's install DIES at 45% of base system part 2, every single time. I've tried installing from my own Powerbook software restore DVD as well as that of a friend, and they both fail in exactly the same spot.

I've repartitioned and reformatted the drive a million tims. I've even rest the PRAM and NVRAM to no avail.

I desperately need to get my Mac back up and running, my 90 days of phone support is expired, I have no way to get to an Apple store, and just desperately want to get Panther re-installed.

Is it 3rd party RAM?

Panther has a very picky installer, but you can put the RAM back in after install.

I had this happen on my Pismo once. Zeroing the drive instead of simply formatting it solved the problem. (Yes, I know that this shouldn't have worked, but it did.)

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I've seen this twice. One it was because of bad ram. The other time was because of a defective CPU.
