Hi,

does anyone have any idea why on earth I cannot see any Printers in some/most apps (word, keynote, freehand etc.) whereas the printer works perfectly in other apps like Safari, TextEdit or Illustrator. [?]
Also, how am I supposed to reinstall the PPDs from the Software Restore CD? To me it looks like it's only possible when installing the Full OS. At this point I just dont have no idea how to pinpoint the cause of the problem...or even if its a "known" issue in OSX/Panther - I'm just new to OSX.

Are you using Little Snitch? I used to have a similar problem when I denied some applications all outgoing access.

This happened with my Acrobat app accidentally. Couldn't figure out why Acrobat 6 wouldn't print until I checked the Little Snitch files -sure enough Acrobat had a universal block.

....THANKYOU guys! It was Little Snitch. After turning it off and a LogOut - all my printers were back up.
But...umm...like, why is this happening? I'm actually printing directly via USB - and not over a network. Why is Little Snitch blocking my USB port???

Also, would it be possible to keep the Snitch working but w/o messing with the printer?

again, many thanks so far!!!

The only way I can think of to prevent it is to just deny an app's attempt to call on a certain port and server, instead of everything. For example, if you were blocking Acrobat's attempts to call home, deny it's connections only to Adobe's server.
