Let's try this again.

I am the sole Mac guy in my office. We have brand new out of the box Dell running XP that acts as our print server. It is connected *wirelessly* to an HP d135 and a Minolta/QMS 2300w.

The PC people can print to the Minolta, print and fax to the HP, while I can't do crap.

I have the Sourceforge drivers installed and the Zenographics driver for it as well. I am attempting to set up the printer via Samba. I open the printer setup utility and do the option-add. I select the Windows via Samba.

Next I try a variety of smb://usernameassword/WORKGROUP/laser

I can't print. I *really* need help here. No one can help, the tech support people we use just frown and make snide remarks. I *know* I must be able to at least print to the laser printer. If I can't print/fax to the HP, fine.

I'll try anything. All suggestions on solving this appreciated!

Thanks!

Still looking.

I found this:
http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3002.html

Lots there I hadn't tried. However, I still can't get anywhere and it may possible have to do with the correct SMB url.

Any thoughts? Anyone?

I am following up on my own post in the chance that what I find may help others.

In your other thread I suggested IP Printing to the IP address of the Dell box. I still think that would be worth a shot.

I did talk to the guy that tends to the equipment, but he said "there is no IP address, it is a share.... "

What does that mean? What do I do now?

Well, if it's on the network, it has an IP address. Press him a little more for that.

Ok. Now it has an IP address. What he meant was that the IP address was dynamic and would possibly change. It is 192.168.2.100. However, I have been trying to print to that and cannot connect. This is really pissing me off.

Oh, thanks for your help.

UPDATE:

I got a consensus on returning the printer.

Good riddance.
