Posted this in the UNIX forum but few responses there so i thought i'd try in here now
I'm trying to use Apple's X11 implemetation to use X11 apps on my slackware box but for some reason i can't get it to work.
when i log in using the the -X flag and launch xterm i get
X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication.
X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
and when i log in i'm told that
Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding.
Can someone advise me? i've looked around on the web, searched the forum and tried the man pages but nothing seems to work or fit this problem.
thanks in advance
thanks

Do you have your firewall on? If so, have you opened port 6000?

nope, my local firewall is down and unless slackware automatically installs and activates its own firewall there isn't one running there either
i'm really not sure how to make this work

How exactly are you attempting to launch the apps on the linux box? I assume what you're trying to achieve is to have the Linux apps display on your local Mac system via X11? If so, this should work:
1) Launch X11 on the Mac
2) In the xterm window, either rlogin or ssh to your linux box (don't use the -X option for X forwarding for now)
3) Set the display environment variable on the Linux system to point to your Mac:
setenv DISPLAY mymac.mydomain:0.0
(above syntax correct if you're using csh or tcsh. Replace "mymac.mydomain" with the fully qualified name of your local machine)
4) Launch the X11 app on the Linux box (e.g., xclock)
Then you should see an xclock window open on your Mac.

thanks Boochie, i managed to figure this one out by myself (but thanks for the help!) it turns out that i hadn't set X11Forwarding to yes in sshd_config as well as ssh_config so it wasn't working.
cheers
anyways!
