Hi All,
Quick question and a real dumb one.
I know on the new G5's you burn music with iTunes and your movies with iDVD but is there anything included to burn a backup of my files? or do I need to purchase a seperate burning software?
If I have to purchase a burning software what is the best one available for OS X?
Thanks!

You can burn data files with the Finder. The only other general purpose burning software is Toast. If you have .Mac you get the Backup program which allows you to burn backups. There are other more professional Backup applications which I don't know names of.

Burn disk images with Disk Utility.

yes, Disk utility will do most of the basic bruning.
For extra options and control (and if you're willing to spend money), I recommend Toast.

Simple steps to general data backup in OS X:
1. pop in a CD and if a dialog pops up, tell it to open in the Finder.
2. drag files in the Finder onto the CD icon.
3. rename the CD to whatever you want.
4. eject the CD, or choose the "Burn" command from the Finder's File menu.
It's not as full-featured as other methods but it's easy.

Main advantage I've found in burning via Disk Utility is ability to burn "appendable" (multi-session) CDs (even on CD-R material).

Toast is not the only one (though it is by far the most successful). There's also Discribe, FireStarter, DragonBurn, MacBurn, DiscBlaze, etc.

you'll get more software questions answered in the software forum.
But because you asked nicely, to burn a disk from finder you need only to put the disk in, drag and drop your files on the CD-R icon on the desktop. When all your files have been copied onto the disk, choose burn disk (or even just eject) from the file menu and you're done.
Or get toast, it does good work.
