I have a client that attempted a software update to 10.3.6, failing miserably. Appears that she didn't know she had to verify permissions first. I had various problems with blank screens, passwords not working, and now the Finder menu bar is missing. All other applications menu bars work just fine but the Finder menu bar is missing. Disk Utilities says everything is just fine and Command/Esc shows me a dialog with a flashing finder in it and this will not allow me to refresh the Finder. Any suggestions?

nope - sounds weird.
Why a poll though?
I vote for the option: "2 installs of 10.3.6, no problems." (and neither installation required a verifying of permissions at all)

Thanks for looking into the post.
There has been a great deal of comment on some very serious problems installing 10.3.6. Obviously, not everyone is having these problems. However, there seems to be a growing number of folks that are. Some of the pleas for help (mostly from newbys) are heart rending and are viewable on Macfixit, Macintouch, etc. Doesn't seem to be any good fixes posted yet 'tho. Apple hasn't responded with any workaround either. Perhaps they are working on it and don't want to worry people. I just hope that someone tells them that this is going on and people don't really want to lose everything on their hard disk due to a simple error.
As for polling, I was just practicing (being a newby on macnn myself) and don't know how to delete just the poll without deleting my entire post. Sigh...eventually someone will tell me how.
Thanks again,
David

I have installed OS X more times than I can remember, on a variety of Macs. From GM upgrades to probably every developer seed since 10.1 and not once did I do a verify permissions prior to or after an update.
There is a missing option " I had no problems"

Good idea! Anyone know how I can add an item to the poll?

if the edit button's not doing it, you may not be able to edit the poll.
Some people always seem to have problems of one sort or another when they install system updates.
Frequently this seems to be due to: crash during installation, disk corruption, permissions corruption, running haxies of one sort or another, bad fonts, seriously limited disk space, or just sheer dumb luck.
I don't think anybody's found any repeatable or consistent problems though with the install of 10.3.6, so, from Apple's point of view, I'm not sure what there is to do...
