I am unable to logout or shut down my laptop. I keep getting the following error message:

Logout has timed out because the application Mirror Agent failed to quit. To try again, quit Mirror Agent and choose Log out from the Apple Menu.

Can someone please explain what Mirror Agent is? I am going to have to manually hold down my power button to shut my computer down. Any insight would be appreciated.

No idea. It's not something that comes with the OS.

Why not force quit it (or kill it from the command line). Check in /Library/Startupitems to see what's going on.

That's the weird thing. I had hoped to force quit it, but it didn't show up to do so (and I don't know how to do anything from the command line).

Mirror Agent does come with the OS. It mirrors your local iDisk to the remote one. If it hangs for some reason and doesn't want to quit, use Activity Monitor to force quit it.

If you're not comfortable with the command line, try using Activity Monitor instead (in the Utilities folder).

Occasionally Mirror Agent hangs on me when I try to shut down (which is rare...), but once in a while the dialog gives a Force Quit button. It seems random, I don't know why it doesn't offer the button all the time.
