If I visited a local Apple store in order to buy a copy of the latest system software edition of Mac OSX, would I be buying the actual latest version of it ie. 10.3.6 I would I be purchasing an earlier version or would it be just the the first version of 10.3 ?

It may be naive inquiry, but being on a 56k link to the net makes downloading huge software updates a questionable activity.

Most likely, you'll get something in between. Sorry. I've had broadband for quite a while, I don't even think about things like that.

Just use the apple store's connection to download the combo updater and burn it to disc or copy to a flash drive. They should be open to this with no issues if you're dropping $130 for the OS.

I too used to have dialup and downloading these huge updates was an overnight affair at a blistering 3KB/sec.

All-seeing and all-knowing since 2000 B.C.
