Hey, does enybody know if it will be possible in Tiger to choose not to have the VPN server as a default gateway, so one can browse the net while connected to the VPN. I know it is possible to create an ip-up script in /etc/ppp, but I don't see why this feaure is not included in Panther.

But how would Mac OS X know what IP addresses should be routed over the VPN connection and which ones over the normal internet connection?

Maybe Apple should simply add a system preference where you can setup a special routing table?

If the VPN Server is an OSXS box, then the VPN server dictate which IPs should be routed through the VPN or the local connection, i.e., this is not a client setting. This is also the same for a Cisco VPN client.

However, if the VPN server is a Windows server, then this is a setting choosen by the client; however, the MacOSX VPN client when connecting to a windows VPN server does not provide this option. A true bummer - hopeflly we'll get the ability to change this in Tiger.

I forgot to mention that you can actually change the routing tables manually to change this, but it requires some CLI stuff using the route command. The bad thing is, everytime you connect to the VPN you will have to change this.

Split routing of your internet connection while hooked up to VPN has long been a feature of the software from Gracion - DigiTunnel. I used to use it extensively before Jaguar but have used the inbuilt client since. I do miss the split routing feature and this is the only way to do it that I know of.
