Can someone please zip up the Apache startup item that comes with 10.3.6 and send it to me at timmerk [at] comcast -dot= net I threw it away, but need it again.

You threw it away? You should never delete anything in /System/, ever.
The one that starts apache is /System/Library/StartupItems/Apache for those who do not know.

Yah, I got rid of Apple's included Apache and compiled my own, which is why I didn't need the startup item anymore.

Use Pacifist to extract the startup item from OS X Install CD.
You could have simply modified the startup item to start your own copy of Apache. Then you could have continued to use the GUI to start and stop it.
