I'm sorry for that "maybe stupid" question but I recently switch from PC and I still didn't have any clues with google results.

I use Project Center (MS Entourage) to manage my projects and I have a tab named "Clippings" and didn't have an idea how(why) to use it.

Thanks

Janeiro

PS: If anybody know the same kind of sofware like Project Center but using iCal, Address Book tell me. Thanks

Not sure on the Entourage question, you might want to take a look at http://www.crm4mac.com

It's what GarageBand causes when you have more than 4 live instruments going simultaneously. [/GB gripe]

Clippings in general are a feature of the OS. Select anything - text, a picture, whatever - and drag it to the desktop. Now it turns into something resembling a file - a clipping. You can drag this file back into a document to paste it - sort of like Drag-n-drop with a stopover point. You can also do anything to it that you can do to a file, like copy it, email it, pass it on via a shared drive, etc. Readmes come in this format on occasion. Nifty, but nothing earthshaking. I'm not certain if this is what MS means - they've been known to reuse words for new features - but it's my best guess.

Not sure if this is exactly what MS was thinking about, but "clippings" can be pretty much any data that you cut and paste - sound, movie, text, picture, perhaps even wysiwyg HTML though I'm not sure about the last one.

Some people probably find that very useful in certain types of projects.

Anyway thanks to everybody. Even it's doesn't really help me for entourage's project center I know now what are those odd files on desktop

That's really funny I can't find any clipping help in entourage help book.

I already gave it a try but it's really really fade to compare entourage features. Honestly in my opinion it's an unfinished soft.

This is probably a dumb question but It's been bothering me for a few weeks.

I seem to recall being able to select any sort of text, anywhere, in OS 9, and drag it to the desktop, as was mentioned...and it would make a clipping.

However, I am trying this now, in OS X (in Safari here) and nothing is happening...it won't even let me drag; it'll just reselect the text. This happens on both of my os x machines and in fact I've never seen text clippings work properly since os 9!

Am I forgetting something easy? I even remember reading an article on a PC enthusiasts site about his time with Mac OS X versus windows, and it listed some of the things he liked...text clipping was one of them and it showed an example screenshot, even. Blarg!

If he can do it, why can't I?

try clicking and holding on the text for a second before you drag it - works fine for me.

Works for me as well. The reason I do not like clippings is that I can't open the clipping in Finder and then reselect portions of it to copy from it.

Four live instruments simultaneously? I'm not a musician, but that sounds to me to be beyond what GB was intended for.

It would seem to me if you're trying to capture 4 live instruments, you're doing real recording and should use some real recording software, not a $49 package designed for individuals and non-musicians to hack around.

Maybe I'm wrong though - I'd like to hear the opinions of others who are musicians and who use real recording packages.

That is also hardware dependant. A dual G5 should be able to handle more instruments than a 400MHz G4 for example. RAM and hard disk space/speed can also be factors.

Not recording four live instruments at the same time, playing them back in real-time. That is MIDI-type instruments, not recorded audio.
