I have a few questions about the Tiger Finder and was wondering if anyone could answer them.

1. Does the Finder's "Spotlight View" when searching for files allow you to see thumbnails.
I'm refering to this view: http://images.appleinsider.com/image...martfolder.gif

2. Under Panther there is a slight delay when deleting or moving icons from folder to folder, has this been dealt with yet?

3. Since Smart Folders no longer use column view what happens when you navigate to one in column view?

4. Does the column preview still choke on videos QuickTime doesn't recognize?

5. Can you drag and drop into the sidebar from other apps?

6. Does the Finder still have the bug that sometimes prevents you from ejecting a device because it thinks it's in use?

Thanks

Yes, it works very well, the appear as 16x16 in the spotlight menu and 128x128 when you show all, they appear very quickly.

2. Under Panther there is a slight delay when deleting or moving icons from folder to folder, has this been dealt with yet?

Never had the problem

3. Since Smart Folders no longer use column view what happens when you navigate to one in column view?

Good question, you get the file preview column - file type "saved Search Query"

4. Does the column preview still choke on videos QuickTime doesn't recognize?

No, it appears to be threaded much better, you can open and close the preview at any time with no delay, and no spinning wheel.

5. Can you drag and drop into the sidebar from other apps?

If you are talking about open/save dialogs no.

6. Does the Finder still have the bug that sometimes prevents you from ejecting a device because it thinks it's in use?

Fixed, the finder device handling is far improved.

I was just going to ask the same things. I'm getting a bit annoyed at Panther's Finder. I also get the delay when moving files. I'm sure it was fixed in Panther but it seems to be back - maybe via one of the updates. When I move a lot of files, the column view scrolls very slowly. It's fine in icon view because it doesn't scroll.

That's great to hear that the Finder doesn't hang on quicktime stuff and ejecting is better. Those were my main issues.

What I would like to know is, can you change Finder flags of files and have them update without restarting the Finder? For example, if you make a file invisible/visible, do you have to restart the Finder for it to take effect?

Regarding the device handling: does the Finder handle it properly now when you burn a CD? At the moment I find that it usually ends up thinking there are two CDs in, i.e. two 'Untitled CDs' on the desktop and then I have to eject the non-existent one to get rid of it. The problem is compounded the more I burn. This also seems to be something of a lack of communication between iTunes and the Finder.

On the same note, when you delete songs from within iTunes, does the Trash now immediately recognise that it has stuff in it, rather than only after you've clicked on it?

That's great to hear. I noticed during the Paris Keynote and the Spotlight menu generated thumbnails for PDFs to. Hopefully the Finder will be able to generate thumbnails for PDFs, videos and Photoshop files before it's done.

It would also be nice if Apple could get the "Spotlight View" working in the open and save dialogs.

If I use a context menu on an item in the Finder to throw it in the trash, the icon will stay there for about a half second before disappearing. This also happens when moving from one folder to another but not from one place to another in the same folder. This seems to have started with Panther. I've noticed this on several different machines in the house.

I assume then that when you double click on it it takes you to the "Spotlight View".

4. Does the column preview still choke on videos QuickTime doesn't recognize?

No, it appears to be threaded much better, you can open and close the preview at any time with no delay, and no spinning wheel.
Finally!

5. Can you drag and drop into the sidebar from other apps?

I'm refering to dragging something (like text or a url) from an app into the Finder's sidebar to drop it in a folder. Sometimes I'll use Expose to get to a Finder window to drop something and it won't let me drop it into the sidebar.

6. Does the Finder still have the bug that sometimes prevents you from ejecting a device because it thinks it's in use?

Fixed, the finder device handling is far improved. [/B]
Also great to hear. I don't run into this too often but when I do it's a real pain. Not to mention the confusion this has got to be for novice users.

I have a couple other questions about the Tiger Finder:

1. When dragging text to the Finder that has a period in front of it does the clipping file still become invisible?

2. Sometimes under Panther when applying permissions to enclosing folders (from get info) it doesn't work.

3. When ejecting a disk, it would be nice if the sidebar would go back to the default location (such as your Home folder) instead of Computer.

4. Under Panther sometimes the text in the status bar vanishes. Also the border with the sidebar sometimes glitches up and the "dimple" turns into a little square.

Thanks
