I only really started noticing this rescently as a PC user friend of mine was always having trouble clicking on links and took many many clicks to get a link to load. It happens to me sometimes, but I do not have nearly as much trouble as others.

Bear with me on this as I want to explain it so you can test it as well as possible. The main issue is that I find that if you click on a link (URL) as you are moving the mouse, that click will not open that link, It is semi-hard for me to replicate, but if you go to a website, and slowly move the mouse over a link so you see the "hand" and while you see that hand you click, it will not open the link, the click is seemingly ignored. If you click and hold too long, you invoke "drag and drop", which I am NOT doing.

First test was to try this same issue on a laptop with the trackpad. What is nice about this test its that you can use two hands, so you can track over a link and use the other hand to push the button. I did not have this problem on the laptop.

My computer that has this problem is a Dual 2.0 G5. I thought it may be the mouse, which is a Macally, so I plugged in the mouse to the laptop, still, only have this issue on the G5. Next, I thought maybe it was the USB hub, so I plugged right into the Cinema Display on the G5, problem still persists.

I also use USB Overdrive as I like to have my mouse really fast, so I installed USB overdrive on the laptop, no problems there. Testing on the G5 with USB Overdrive disabled also still exhibits the same problem. More or less, I wonder if this happens on all G5's and if it happens on other machines that are not laptops. it is a hard test to perform, so I hope to get accurate people here to report the results.

It very well could just be the way the mac works, not sure, it is mildly annoying.

I like to have my mouse so I can go from left to right in no more than about 2 inches of wrist movement. I would also like to get a new mouse, but I am picky. I would love software that allows me to set a "curve" so I can alter the acceleration based on the mouse spped, something USB overdrive does not do very well. Any suggestions? I really like my mouse to be the same shape as the original ADB mouse apple made, so the Macally is perfect, but I think I could use a higher resolution that the 800 that it is. I hate the wirelss ones as the batteries add too much weight to the mouse.

Can some of you test this out for me and let me know how it works for you. I also tried a new user account, and the problem was there as well. It may not even be a problem and more a feature, thought I am not sure why a "jerky"hand should make the mouse click on operate. A right click immediately brings up the contextual menu, even when moving the mouse, which leads me to think this is done by design and it is just how it is. If there is some strange OS X setting that i am missing, please let me know,

AFAIK, the normal way to activate a link is to stop the mouse pointer and click on it. Why you want to click on a link while the pointer is in motion is beyond me.

If you move the mouse while moving it it is considered a drag and that's why it won't follow the link.

Any drag (i.e. click while moving the mouse) on a link will invoke drag-and-drop. Safari doesn't display the drag image until you've dragged the mouse about half an inch, but that is what's happening.
