People say that if you drop several files, for example pdf's, onto the printer set up utility, then those will all start printing.

Does not work for me.

Instantly the words "job stopped" come up, although I do see the files now placed in the printer's window which I use HL 1440.

Of course I hit start jobs, but nothing happens. This printer works perfectly in normal situations. So I'm just wondering about printing up multiple pdf at once without having to open them up one at a time, if this is really possible.

That is strange. I drop multiple PDFs on the Printer Setup Utility and it happily prints them all to the default printer. If it isn't private/sensitive data, can you post the PDFs and I'll give it a try? Maybe it's something with the files?

Or have you tested multiple PDFs and nothing works?

My test files were these:

prob1 prob2 prob3

Yes Xeo, it does this with all pdf, including yours.

Just tried with my back up HP, did print out one sheet, but then a blank, and would not print out a word file ,very unreliable. But I think still OSX is just an unstable OS for printing. (just bought a $500 rip for high end photo printing).

I with there was another way to print multiple documents.

For PDFs, you could try this. It adds an extra step, but could still save time if you are printing a lot.

Incidentally, I used to have the Brother 1470N, which is the networked version of the 1440. It was a piece of shit.

It worked okay for awhile, but (1) the Postscript emulation caused problems intermittently, (2) the stingy 2MB of RAM made it bonk on images and spool slowly, (3) The Grey Background Problem.

I now have a Samsung 2151-N which is wonderful; true Postscript 3 support, built-in duplexing, and rock-solid.

Well you can use it to put together those 5 pdfs into a single pdf and then print that as you would a normal document. It's an extra step but could be used with applescript to make a drag and drop printing application.

Bump.. I ran into the same problem yesterday, dragged-and-dropped a pdf and a word doc into the queue list and did print the first document, then opened a blank word doc, then stopped. The printer in the dock no longer works now, I ran disk utility, the icon came back, then disappeared again upon clicking once on it. I think this is really an OS X fault, not really the printer's.
