The Finder quis and trys to start up again. It won't stay open for longer than a second. Does anyone know whats wrong?


I'm using 10.3.6 ona iMac G4 800 Mhz...

I tried restarting and it didn't work.

someone said i should "delete the Finder preferences in your Library/Preferences folder in your home directory"


but I don;t know how to use terminal. can someone tell me how...thank you.

It's a problem that appears in some 10.3.6 update installs. I have had it happen twice. I solved it the first time by booting from Disc Warrior CD and getting it to rebuilt the directory. If you don't have DW then the other fix that worked for me was to boot in single user mode (hold down command + S keys during reboot) and then run the following command.

fsck -yf

Use -yf if the disk is journalled--the deafult OS X setting or

fsck -y

if the disk is not journalled.
