You don't need the terminal to delete that preference file, just an administrative account and password.
Look in the users folder >>YOUR user name >>Library >> Preferences >>com.apple.finder.plist. Drag this file to the trash. You wont be able to empty the trash until you restart. Reset your Finder prefs after the restart
If that doesn't work, please post back with more details on your system and a more complete description of the problem & symptoms.

The thing is, he can't "look in a folder" if the Finder keeps quitting on him every few seconds.
You could log on as root and then delete the file, or if you machine allows it, boot into OS 9 and then delete the file.
But via terminal you just have to type:
cd ~/Library/Preferences/ [hit return]("cd" means "change directory" - you're basically moving to the proper folder)
rm com.apple.finder.plist [hit return] ("rm" means "remove" - basically you're deleting the preferences, but they will be gone (i.e. not waiting in the trash)).

In the future, think about your topic titles more. Attention getting titles are not the proper way for posting a question. A one-liner about your problem will suffice.
