fwiw--

no problems here either. No differences at all that I can tell.

safari at 1.2.4 (v125.12)

dunno what it was before, but the fixes may have been to one of safari's libraries, not the app itself.

I cannot download the update completely. I suspect that my school's firewall is blocking it. How can I eliminate the partial download so that when I go off campus I can get a fresh copy?

The firewall has blocked that, too. Anyway, I was able to clear the caches. That did the trick.

Your school needs to fix its moronic firewall configuration (if that is indeed the problem).

My PB (10.3.6) ran really, really slowly after the update and restart. Another restart fixed it, though. Anyone else get this?

That often happens. The boot as a whole is slower and right after login there are background processes producing quite some load. Let the processes finish, the system will freshly re-cache before you reboot. And as you say, the next boot will be fine.

Yeah go figure. I was able to successfully download and apply the update off-campus. No problems here.

Since installing this update on a G3 600mhz iBook I have not been able to login. This occured from the first restart after applying the update. The boot proceeds normally until the "Login Window starting" message appears then it sits there with the progress bar at about 95% to the end. When I say it sits there I mean for over 7 hours.

I have run the repair function for the disk and for permissions and aside from correcting a few minor permission strings it finds no problems and does not improve the situation. Has anyone seen anything like this? I did see an earlier message regarding long startups on a PowerBook earlier in the thread but my startup seems to be completely stalled.
