I just added another hd and was wondering if there is something I can do to make sure the drive is running fine with OS X. When I ran disk utility all I did was delete everything then I did a partition on the HD then loaded up OS X on the old hd and now I see the hd on my desktop. Any comments on something if any I did wrong?

Just throw some (nonessential) stuff on there and bang on it for a few days. If all seems well, go ahead and start using it for real.

fill the disk up, empty it. check the SMART status in Disk Utility.app. Since we can't get the raw numbers easily, it may still be getting errors, just not enough with a single write pass to pass the SMART "it's dying" threshhold. Good luck.
