I am a newer of Mac.

I heard that Mac does not support Online Banking, is that true? Since I always check account, pay bills etc. Online Banking is very important to me. Will that be a problem if I use Mac?

Thanks.

I'm with Lloyds TSB in the UK and it works perfectly. In fact, I don't know of any site Safari doesn't work with.

The all-mighty Washington Mutual works very well in every browser I've tried it in on my Mac.

HSBC is the only bank I've ever had problems with. But I had plenty of problems with them other than the Internet so . . .

The question is not whether or not Macs support online banking. The question is whether or not your bank supports Macs. There's no good reason for them not to, but some places are just crappy.

All of mine work, though.

The only problem I've ever had was with a British credit card company that stopped supporting payment of bills online when they updated their site. I cancelled the card and told them why as soon as I'd worked out what the problem was.

Every other bank I've tried has worked perfectly. I use Firefox or Mozilla for HSBC, which I think would fix the problems a poster above was having. Works perfectly.

In other words, I wouldn't let it sway your decision away from getting a Mac.

If you only have a PC and want to test if online banking will work on a Mac, just download Firefox from www.mozilla.org and install it on your Windows PC. Then try to do online banking with Firefox. If it works, it will almost certainly work on the Mac, too. If you get a message telling you that you have to use the Internet Explorer, you probably won't be able to use that banking site with your Mac.

Not sure what bank you use, but I have reluctantly used Wells Fargo for the last seven years (for business and personal accounts) and their online banking website works fine under Mac OS X...There was about a month or so when it didn't work with Safari, but I think that was when Safari was still in its beta testing phase...things have been smooth for several years and I use it on an almost daily basis...

Just to add some international info on the matter, both Banco Santander Central Hispano and Unicaja from Spain work with Safari. Probably a lot more banks from here do, but I never had the chance to see it in action.

NatWest (UK). Works only if you turn JavaScript off while logging in, then on while browsing the site. (Or maybe the other way round.)

Bank One, Wells Fargo, and all my credit cards work well with Safari. Until recently, I had to use Explorer to pay my Bank of America card online, but it now works with Safari as well.

All of my banks work fine with Safari. Mozilla and Internet Explorer can stand in if needed. I had one episode where one bank didn't let me in because I wasn't using IE, but it was fixed a couple weeks later. I've either currently or at various times in the past used Fleet (and now Bank of America), American Express, Citibank, MBNA, BankOne, Sally Mae, Discover and PNC on Macs.

What happens is some lazy folks at some of these sites can simply check to see what browser you're using when you contact their site. If you aren't using IE, they lock you out whether or not the site renders well or has the right security set up or not. They do that because it saves them the effort of doing more thorough work, and it's an arbitrary and artificial roadblock.

I think the only site in recent memory that blocked me from a Mac was Weight Watchers. "Get off your computer and start exercising!" was the message I guess.

My online bank didn't work in Safari. So I forced it to, by fixing some crt-files.
Firefox/Camino supports everything I've thrown at them, though.

Niether Safari or Camino works for my at www.usbank.com. OmniWeb (which is based on webcore so go figger) and Firefox both work on that sight. I can log in with Safari, but not do online bill pay.

If your bank supports it, Safari seems to have the best Keychain implementation for passwords followed closely by OmniWeb. So I use OmniWeb at USBank and Safari for everything else.

Firefox has its own annoying password manager, and as a result, I scrapped it. To bad because it does show some promise.

Have you noticed that Commerce Bank's online banking site only uses half the window in Safari? It functions just fine, but it's almost like there's a frame running across the middle of the window and it's completely blank on the bottom half.

After I posted this I went back to Commerce's site determined to figure out the problem... and I did... haha! It's been bugging me since day one of my Mac experience and now it's no more... combined with my discovery of setting a minimum font size in Safari's Advanced menu and presto - all of my Safari issues have been solved in one day.

I guess it pays to carefully inspect a programs options afterall... haha...

(and yeah... I know... a little off topic... but I just had to share )

It is false. However, while some banks support the Mac, others do not, and there are even a few which work with Macs but the bank doesn't know that. Is there a particular bank you have in mind? We may be able to help.
