I'm thinking about .Mac, as I heard that 1GB of storage is only a $50 upgrade or something...
Can someone who uses .Mac go through all the pricing for storage upgrades?
Also, is it true that after too much bandwidth usage, your .Mac hosted files might just not be there for people to access? How much bandwidth would this be? I could very well use more than 5GB a month of bandwidth...maybe even that much a week...

It's $49.95 for an extra 1024 of space.
Never had a problem with bandwidth or space. And I have about a dozen photo pages right now, a couple of movie pages, 2 menu pages, a page with resume and c/v on it, a page with design clips, a page with writing samples and a page of downloads. I'm at less than 200mb and I still sync my ical, address book and library.

See, I'm thinking that with the extra $49.95 for 1GB, .Mac might be worth it. Many places offer a gigabyte for say...$60 a year...while .Mac would cost me about $120. If it's more reliable, I might just pay that price, considering that it also has such wonderful integration with the Mac.
If it's less reliable, though, then you know...
If I had 1.25GB of .Mac space, would they allot me more monthly bandwidth? I'd like to think so...I'd be backing up very large files.
P.S. How's the upload speed?

Cheaper ways to backup large files than .mac. What you should do is give it a test drive and see if it meets your needs. Without knowing what you plan to do, it's difficult to answer your questions. In this case, experience is the best way to go.
You may be pleasantly surprised.

Double check on this, but I believe the bandwidth limits applies to web/file serving, not to you reading and writing to your own iDisk. I bring this up since you mention you want the space for backing up files, not distributing them.

.Mac is not intended for people who are moving huge files all the time. It is a comprehensive suite of services, of which iDisk is only a component, that augment the user experience on the Mac for "most" users, ie, not you by the sound of it.
You should get something cheaper and faster if you need that kind of storage and bandwidth. .Mac is great but if you dont' use iSynch and iCal publishing and Homepage, etc. then it is a waste. iDisk seems slow to me for your needs.

Another thing to keep in mind, that extra gig you purchase is split between mail and storage, so you have less to play with.

Wrong! You can adjust the amounts for each one.

Cool, how do you? I thought I read somewhere that it couldn't be adjusted. I'd love to move more email storage over to idisk storage.

Unmount your iDisk, so it'll update once the change is made. Head over to .Mac, go to preferences and you should see the area where you can adjust the amount of space given to email and your iDisk. Adjust, and remount.
