I suspect this is the wrong forum, but there's little activity in OS9, and this isn't really a "9" problem. I have a calendar program I use once a year: now. In years past, it's worked fine. But when using it last night, it keeps telling me I can't print without selecting a printer in the chooser. (I forgot how much I hate the chooser...)

Anyway, I can't get my Epson C82 IN the chooser. I looked up some info in my "missing manual' book and understand now than when I reformatted in January, before installing Panther, but after making last year's calendar without incident, I must have eliminated the drivers. I've now installed drivers, supposedly on OS9, twice this morning and still get no printer.

Do I have to restart in 9? Is that necessary for installign the drivers? I just want to use Classic, but I suppose I can do it the other way if I have to. Also -- my printer is actually set up via Airport Extreme. I don't think that makes a difference, but I don't remember if I had to plug it in directly last year or not.

Thanks in advance. I'm fairly frustrated at this point.

There should be a way to print from Classic through the X drivers, but the best way might be just to download and install 9 drivers.

You can not print to a printer connected to an Airport Extreme base station through Classic. Classic/OS 9 does not support Rendezvous printers. You will need to connect it directly to your Mac via USB for you to print from Classic.

I SWEAR I did last year, but as it was a year ago I probably didn't. Either that, or maybe I booted into 9. I did finally get the printer to show up in the chooser -- more installation than I'd thought was needed -- but it still wouldn't select. So I suspected that I needed a direct connection, and not the Extreme one. I couldn't test the theory because all the computers were in use by teenagers doing research papers last night.

Thanks for the help. the problem was driving me crazy.

A workaround is to use something like PrintToPDF, or to add a dummy Postscript printer, and save the .ps file. Then print that file from Preview.
